Hey everyone, most people’s dream is to find something where they work from home and there are many reasons why working from home is a benefit. I have come up with 10 of the best reasons to work from home and I wanted to share them with you and why it beats the old 9 to 5 job or retail job you might be in.

I have put together a Video going through the 10 best reasons to work from home, or you can carry on and read the list if you prefer.

You Control Your Schedule

A typical job will have a shift structure that means you have to work to a schedule. A retail worker may even be on a flexible contract and this could change every week and if you have kids that really messes up the childcare arrangements. But if you worked for yourself at home you can work to your own schedule. If you are a night owl, you can do what needs to be done on the evenings and it will not affect the business and it leaves you time in the morning to do other things.

More Time for Parenting or Your Own Pursuits

Being a parent myself, working from home has a great benefit in the fact I am not rushing out in morning and missing my son before he goes to school. If he is not well, I can look after him without having to agree time back with my boss. I just work around it to get what I need done.

Aside from parenting, the things I like most about working from is being able to catch up on things I wanted to do. Getting back into a hobby or earning from a passion you had, but never had time due to the hour-long commute home, or even having time to go the gym and connect with a few mates of mine. There are many examples where working from home can benefit you.

Make Money Doing Something You Love

What makes working for yourself feel good is that you are basing it on something you like doing. My wife is very creative and started a wedding stationary business. Starting small on eBay and moving onto a website, building a brand that now ships invitations worldwide. Now, compare that to the admin job she had previously where she left the house at 7am and did not arrive home until 6.30pm she was just home in time to kiss him good night. Starting a business from home give you many benefits and doing something you love has many factors that keep you feeling positive.

No Drive into Work

How many times have you got stuck in traffic on the way to work… The commute to work or home is one of the most stressful parts of the day for most. And that is before you even get to work and start the tasks that you need to do. There is also the savings on fuel – fuel prices are really high at the moment with no sign of them dropping. Public transport isn’t that great either and the cost of a bus pass or railcard makes it no comparison to working from home and not spending that money and half the time you don’t get to sit down on a train.

Control Over Income

Many people chose not to start a business due to the worries of not earning enough money to live on. Whilst it is something you need to consider; the reality is a home business can allow you to earn what you’re worth. A job will not always give you a pay rise or pay you for the effort you put in.

As a business owner, you set your own income goals, and product and service prices. As long as you put adequate time and effort into achieving those goals you can earn what you need.

Also, most home businesses have been started on the side of a normal job and then made the transition when it is the right time.

Tax Benefits

There are tax benefits to having your own business from home, you can write off equipment, supplies and even a portion of your home or car if appropriate. You can even claim a portion of utilities you use, i.e. internet or electric. Also, a normal job – you get taxed on what you earn. In a home business, you can deduct your expenses first and only pay tax on your net income.

I must stress it is important to check this out properly with a tax expert. But there are definite benefits.

No Work Uniform

How many jobs out there have a standard uniform you need to wear, or an expectation you wear business attire. Even when it’s really hot or really cold you need to wear this workwear which isn’t very appealing.

Not if you are working from home, you can wear what you like, within reason. Only wearing appropriate clothes when needed.

No Boss

Another benefit is you are not working for someone else who dictates what you need to do and when by. Now, as a business owner you do need to set yourself targets and deadlines – but that is to benefit you and not a company that will receive the benefits of your work.

Feel a Greater Level of Satisfaction

There is a high level of satisfaction when it is your own business and you have achieved something, from setting up a new website, receiving a positive review from a customer, to getting regular business. That is a great feeling, because you put the work in and you have benefitted from it.

Gemma, my wife says there is nothing better than receiving an email of a customer telling us how great their invitations were when they arrived. Gem has put the work in and it feels great to receive that recognition.

Do we always get that level of recognition in our day jobs – sometimes is what I would surmise.

Learn New Skills & Grow as a Professional

Starting your own business from home also means you will learn many skills, and many of them will benefit you regardless of the activities you pursue. It will allow you to grow as a professional too. Starting small whilst you have a day job is fine, but constantly learning new skills will lead you to a point where you are scaling your business to achieve the income levels you set in your initial goals.

Review

There you have it, 10 of the best reasons to work from home and why it beats the day job. You will be surprised how productive you can be to, it does require a bit of discipline to stop you sitting there watching the TV all day. But the benefits to your well-being are well worth the steps required to get started. Basing a business on a passion you have means you can really get your teeth into it and achieve the dream of working from home.
