Solo Build It claims to be the only all-in-one package you need to become an entrepreneur or solopreneur and build a profitable online business with step-by-step guides tools and guidance. Well, we wanted to know whether this system was all it was cracked up to be. I’ll be answering the question of whether Solo Build It is a scam and is it the right choice for a complete newbie looking for such platforms?
What is Solo Build It?
Solo Build It is a full online training course and has been around for a while, their website states they use their 15 years of experience to help new people succeed. It takes you from niche selection, website design through to turning that into revenue. It is all designed to help you build a strong foundation before you start looking at turning it to revenue. Which is a common theme with highly rated programs. Monetising your site too early can put users off, build a foundation and get users then work on monetising your site is a good thing and a proven method.
Something I do find odd though, is they encourage you to invite your family and friends as your first group – they label it as using them as a feedback method, but really it does seem like a sales technique to get them to join with a view to them joining??
But either way, it does mean you can get some real feedback.
Their training is based on what is called an ‘Action Guide’. This breaks down the activities into a day-by-day planner with task to complete daily. You tick off the activities as you complete them. Follow the training to achieve the success.
What Tools Do They Offer?
They have two main tools – the site builder function and a keyword research tool.
The site builder function speaks for itself, it helps build your site for you. They have also included the option to use WordPress – being the most common and easiest form of CMS (Content Management System) but when you start looking at the detail… you have to pay for the hosting for it. They don’t provide the hosting for the WordPress site if you use it. That is why they offer it for a cheaper price. They would prefer you to use their software.
Their Keyword Research Tool is called Brainstorm it – it isn’t as easy to use as other versions out there, with terminology that is a bit confusing, i.e. value demand (search volume), real supply (traffic) and profitability (competition). It is an effective keyword research tool but not really good for newbies as there is a steep learning curve, you would probably be better with our preferred keyword research tool.
Another tool they have is called Custom Services.
It covers a number of categories covering research, writing, traffic, monetisation, social, technical, etc.
It looks quite useful, get help on any of these categories, including review by a professional web designer if you have problems. But it is an expensive option – $54 for 30 minutes. So you pay them to look at your website, see what any issues are and then tell you how to fix them – but you need to apply the fixes?
The platform I have extensively used has a feature to get feedback like this and or fixes and support with no additional cost, they simply apply a pay-it-forward system. You offer feedback to the community and you will receive the same back, read more here.
Is it Any Good? – Pros
There are some clear benefits to using this program:
- A 90-day money back guarantee for those not satisfied
- It is aimed at beginners with step-by-step guides
- ‘Action Guide’ is broken down into a day-by-day planner
- Has started to offer a WordPress CMS version
- A community forum for support
- It does offer a technical support (additional cost)
- Is reasonably priced if you are happy with just one domain.
What Are the Issues? – Cons
So, are there any reason why this might not be the right platform for you?
- Training is limited to being aimed at beginners
- A Small percentage of the training is outdated
- Training is all based on the SBI system and isn’t relevant to outside of it
- The price of $29 a month is based on one domain – if you want multiple you need to pay this for each domain.
- Same for the annual $299 membership – is based on one domain
- Hosting platforms such as Hostgator do not accept SBI sites – you would need to remain with SBI
- Moving a site is not easy (a way of discouraging it) you would need to move it page by page
- If your site gets 500 visitors a day or more, you would need to upgrade to the premium membership
- As it is for newbies, the community forum lacks professional marketers for support.
- If you are stuck and need support, they charge you to see what the issues are
I could go on, but sufficed to say – there are better alternatives out there…
How Much Does It Cost?
Their membership for a standard SBI site is $29.99 a month or $299 a year. Which is a decent price for what they offer in their platform, but that is still based on only having one domain.
It is $17 a month or $149 a year for a WordPress version – but this doesn’t include the hosting. It is access to the training. So, you would need to find hosting with a WordPress hosting platform. Check out a training platform that offers free WordPress websites in its price).
A slight niggle I have is you have to hand over the money to try the system and then prove you are not happy and request your money back here. They used to offer a 30-day trial where you tried it for free before handing over your credit card details, but now they have changed that to the current way.
Final Conclusion – Is Solo Build It a Scam?
Let’s start with that and answer the question, no it is not a scam. It is a genuine platform with some really useful training, albeit a more technical type of training. The cost of it is reasonably too – if you only want one site. But this leads to the point where a typical affiliate marketer will grow to multiple sites once they start making revenue. Would I say this is the best platform for a complete beginner, then I would probably say no. If you would prefer a WordPress site, then I would change that to a definite no. There are better alternatives.
Proven Platform Designed for Newbies
If you want to explore a platform that is proven, and the results are evident (I use them), then I would suggest you read my review of Wealthy Affiliate. See some of the benefits below:
- Free 7-day premium membership trial
- 2 free websites with a starter membership, 25 with premium membership
- Live Weekly Classes
- Step-By-Step Guides
- Continually updated training
- Access to a community of professional marketers
- Access to the owners of the platform
- A whole lot more
Solo Build It has many positives and does seem like a proven method, but would I rate it as highly as Wealthy Affiliate… there are too many unanswered questions on that. Research shows that some are divided about their experience with SBI. Some, it has worked for them and others have not enjoyed the experience. This maybe down to if you are successful or not. Not everyone puts the effort required in and can ‘blame their tools’.
But I wouldn’t have the same opinion of WA and would rate them much higher and therefore are our No.1 Recommended Product.
Thanks for reading my review of Solo Build It, if you are still with me I would love to know what you thought. Have you got any experience with SBI, what do you think? Have you been successful with their ‘Action Guide’?
